My Journey to Become a Writer 01/24/2024 Post #24

What Did I Accomplish Today to Be a Writer?

Informative Image

It was another day of huge hurdles. I’m tempted to not add details, like I did yesterday; but maybe that’s cheating a bit.

I did Day 24 of the 100 Words a Day Writing Challenge 2024 through LA Writer’s Lab.

I printed off more of my work and shared it with others.

I started a new writing class.

What Am I Afraid of Doing Next in My Journey as a Writer?

Today I spoke with someone from a recording studio about the possibility of producing some of my songs, and maybe poems and audiobooks. I’ll share more on that later; but just having that conversation was a major hurdle.

Also, when I was sharing my work in my writing group, and especially when reading my poem, I could hear my heart pounding and was literally trembling internally. I don’t know why reading my words out loud is so frightening for me; but it is.

Stuff I find myself saying:  How do I know you’re not just another cloud without rain? Kickin’ up dust, better shut my window again…

Actually, I’m not saying that, I’m singing it – it’s a song I wrote a long time ago that I’m trying to get the courage to record.

How Am I Balancing the Different Aspects of Being a Writer?

As far as work-life-balance, I’m like somebody who needs to take a breathalyzer test – my schedule has been pretty off-kilter the last couple of days; but I do think I’m moving forward, one tentative and tipped over step at a time.

*All that is metaphorically-speaking.

What I’m Doing About Building a Body of Work as a Writer

I’ve been encouraged several times to write about grief and going through caregiving. I don’t know that I’m ready to focus on a manuscript about that; but I’ve decided to be more proactive about taking notes now, when so many of feelings in that realm are fresh and raw.

What I’m Doing to Complete My Manuscripts as a Writer

Yesterday, I printed several copies of my manuscript and have distributed them to specific people for feedback. It’s also been shared with my writers’ group.

What I’m Doing to Grow My Website as a Writer

I didn’t do much of anything about it today.

What I’m Doing to Build My Blog as a Writer

I’ve been slacking on this the past two days. I’m a little too scattered.

What I’m Doing About Networking as a Writer

I had a good conversation with a guy who runs a nearby recording studio. I’ll probably share more about that soon. Yesterday, I reached out to the reporters/ editors who have covered my dad’s three year cruise interviews, and heard back from two of them.

I’m very encouraged by the support from the Wabash Writers’ Group and hopeful that we can continue to help each other along in our writing efforts.

What I’m Doing About Monetization as a Writer

Please don’t ask.

What I’m Doing About Social Media as a Writer

Procrastinating – and totally confused by facebook notifications.

What I’m Doing About Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a Writer

Nothing at this moment.

What I’m Doing to Stay Organized as a Writer

Praying God will have mercy on my scattered mind. I did do a huge dive into my inboxes yesterday and probably eliminated about fifteen hundred emails. It’s been terrible how I haven’t wanted to face my email. I can elaborate more another time – hopefully I will have all that in order soon – and maintain a nearly empty email account.

Looking Back at My Writing Journey

I’m amazed at how many fears I’ve had to get passed; but it’s also astonishing how some very simple things can still tempt me to be scared.

Any Other Thoughts on Becoming a Writer, Random Rants, Tales, or Trials…

I’m tired and really do need to start these posts earlier.

Thanks for reading what I’m writing,

I'm not sure what to say here: I once got second place in a dog-look-alike-contest? I know how to fold a fitted sheet? I'm pretty much a poster child for social backwardness - at least as far as social media is concerned; but I have some stories I think I'm supposed to share and am attempting to do that here, in this space.
