My Journey to Become a Writer 02/15/2024 Post #46

It was another day of trying to be a writer without getting to do much writing. Hopefully soon some of this rubble will be clear, and I can concentrate on creating content.

What Did I Accomplish Today to Be a Writer?

I did Day 46 of the 100 Words a Day Writing Challenge 2024 through LA Writer’s Lab.

What Am I Afraid of Doing Next in My Journey as a Writer?

I’m afraid of people thinking I’m not “taking the plunge” – that I’m coming across timid about diving into writing, when really I’m just trying to get a better foundation laid before I start building.

Stuff I find myself saying:  I need to get a new driver’s license.

How Am I Balancing the Different Aspects of Being a Writer?

Making time slots for different aspects of my business has been a big deal. If I stick to my predetermined schedule, I’m a lot less likely to boss myself around by saying I ought to be doing ten tasks at a time.

What I’m Doing About Building a Body of Work as a Writer

Since I have handed my manuscript over to someone else to edit it, I’m really trying to take a big step backwards and let go. I’m sure I’ll look at it soon; but with so many other things going on, I’m just going to let it rest.

What I’m Doing to Complete My Manuscripts as a Writer

Waiting.

What I’m Doing to Grow My Website as a Writer

I’d linked that article about my dad’s cruise over here to this site – or at least mentioned it, and it seemed to draw a few more visitors than usual.

What I’m Doing to Build My Blog as a Writer

Not letting myself run with every random idea that comes into my head.

Not so Fun Fact About Me:  I get a lot of ideas.

What I’m Doing About Networking as a Writer

Last night my writing group went to see Michael Palascak, who was performing at the Eagle’s Theater in Wabash (which happens to be the town where he went to high school). Here’s his Dry Bar Comedy show from a while back, if you’re unfamiliar with his work:

Michael chose to film his next special in Wabash and would like to pitch it to Netflix, so if clean comedy is something you want to see there, it would help him if you put in a request to Netflix.

Request TV shows or movies | Netflix Help Center – type Michael Palascak into the suggestion box.

Since the leader of our Wabash Writers Group, Lori Overmyer, was Michael’s journalism teacher, he was kind enough to meet with us at Modoc’s to answer questions.

What I’m Doing About Monetization as a Writer

Nothing; but I did start entering my mileage into QuickBooks today, so that’s a start.

What I’m Doing About Social Media as a Writer

Not much; but I’m starting to add in a few comments here and there when I happen to see something I like.

What I’m Doing About Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a Writer

Nothing.

What I’m Doing to Stay Organized as a Writer

Today I bought a bunch of file folders. I’ve still been sorting through paperwork, hoping to be in a state of order soon.

Looking Back at My Writing Journey

I’m just thinking about how different life is from a couple of years ago.

Life a couple of years ago during this time was so much different.

Any Other Thoughts on Becoming a Writer, Random Rants, Tales, or Trials…

I’ve noticed an uncharacteristic sense of tiredness in myself when it comes to hearing about other people’s problems. In some ways, it’s almost like I have used all of my grief reserve and can’t carry my usual sense of compassion. I feel like I’ve become a bad listener and feel guilty about that; but I think really I probably just need a nap.

Thanks for reading what I’m writing,

Jody Susan

I'm not sure what to say here: I once got second place in a dog-look-alike-contest? I know how to fold a fitted sheet? I'm pretty much a poster child for social backwardness - at least as far as social media is concerned; but I have some stories I think I'm supposed to share and am attempting to do that here, in this space.
