My Journey to Become a Writer 04/29/2024 Post #120

I’m wanting to reiterate more of my notes from listening to Anne Lamott.  She’s had books in print for something like forty-five years.  Before that, she watched her father be a successful writer.  I’d say she’s seasoned.  She herself said that she recently turned seventy. I bet she knows some things I ought to take note of, if I want to take a similar path, or high tail it in another direction.

One thing I heard her say was that she’d taught that whole time.

I’m guessing that was a more stable income than waiting for book deals.

She’s small; but not starving, so I doubt she totally depended on art.  Teaching is a practical way to benefit from the craft of writing.  I wonder if I will ever get the nerve to do any of that.  Mostly, I see myself as an encourager instead of an instructor.

The book, “The Well-fed Writer” comes to mind.  I still haven’t implemented its strategies, because I feel like I’d be setting aside my own stories once more; but I have kept its tips in the back of my mind for broadening my horizons – and keeping my bank account afloat.

What Did I Accomplish Today to Be a Writer?

I did Day 120 of the 100 Words a Day Writing Challenge 2024 through L.A. Writers’ Lab.

My Current Home Management Strategies to Help Stay Organized as a Writer

I’ve been trying to keep things as simple as possible as far as possessions and projects are concerned. There will always be more to do – at some point I have to draw a line in the sand and drop what seems like I can’t let go of.

Right now I need to drop everything and go to bed. Thanks for reading what I’m writing,

As I look back at this post from 99 days ago, I’m laughing that today I witnessed a bit of an argument between two people from different cultures about washing machines and whether people of a certain country generally had them in their homes. About a hundred days ago, I did not…

I'm not sure what to say here: I once got second place in a dog-look-alike-contest? I know how to fold a fitted sheet? I'm pretty much a poster child for social backwardness - at least as far as social media is concerned; but I have some stories I think I'm supposed to share and am attempting to do that here, in this space.
