In today’s writing group, we were asked to write about the thing we have the hardest time saying.
My response came quickly.
“No.”
Plain and simple.
That’s a word I have a hard time saying, and even more difficulty standing by; but it’s a word I want to be able to use more freely.
So often I set up boundaries like tiny, paper stones, which get swept away with the whims of other people, or my desire to do whatever I think will please them most. My health and writing have suffered because of my inability to stand my ground, protect my schedule, or even just say, “Thanks; but no thanks”.
I’ve been making efforts to change my ways in this realm, and so far the results have been good.
I’ve been staying home more. Not everything goes as planned, as you can see in the following video; but it’s been good to go slow:
What Did I Accomplish Today to Be a Writer?
I did Day 73 of the 100 Words a Day Writing Challenge 2024 through LA Writer’s Lab, and I finally started recharging my solar panels for my Tiny House Writing Studio, so I can work out there more comfortably. It felt rather metaphorical to do that, since I’m also trying to recharge myself.
I’ve come to a spot in my manuscript where I’m realizing I have two Act Twos, and one of them needs to go, so I’ve been revisiting the theme and also trying to distill the action, dialogue and narration down to a more narrow scope. I’ve still got a lot to cut away. Until then –
Thanks for reading what I’m writing,
Jody Susan
