My Journey to Become a Writer 03/12/2024 Post #72

I’m still not running at 100% at this point, so I have pulled back on all my commitments for a while

Hopefully this can reduce my stress and help me get myself more situated.

I spent most of today still going through boxes, sorting through my mom’s stuff and filing paperwork.

Sometimes it’s overwhelming to look at what’s left; but so many of these scraps and clippings contribute to the story I’m hoping to tell through my book series about the barn that I can’t help but keep going.

I did come across a book I’d written in Elementary School about snakes, and also some of my report cards – which stated that it took me a long time to articulate things; but that I could write a story.

I also found a doll my grandma made. She’d sewn the hem of its skirt to be entirely surrounded by tiny pockets to keep crayons in. I’m guessing that as a granddaughter I was probably kind of a disappointment in the doll realm. Mostly because I was scared of them. As far as crayons, my mom said that when I was in Kindergarten, someone asked what I’d learned in school that day.

My enthusiastic response was, “I learned to break crayons and do Karate!”

I will try to keep all the coloring tools in tact in this doll’s skirt.

What Did I Accomplish Today to Be a Writer?

I did Day 72 of the 100 Words a Day Writing Challenge 2024 through LA Writer’s Lab. I skipped my writing group, since I’m still not feeling very strong. Hopefully soon I can get back into the swing of things.

This video about stories from old people now compared with what’s coming popped up in my feed and made me laugh: https://www.instagram.com/p/C3GAaEWL2Oz/

Hopefully my stories will be more interesting than my breakfast. In the meantime –

Thanks for reading what I’m writing,

Here’s a post about my mom’s breakfast and how she met Fred Bird:

I'm not sure what to say here: I once got second place in a dog-look-alike-contest? I know how to fold a fitted sheet? I'm pretty much a poster child for social backwardness - at least as far as social media is concerned; but I have some stories I think I'm supposed to share and am attempting to do that here, in this space.
