My Journey to Become a Writer 09/03/2024 Post #247

I’m starting to feel a better sense of rhythm in the way I’ve split up tasks according to specific days.

I also started tap dancing lessons – but I can’t say I have much rhythm there. I don’t think I’ve taken an official class since maybe middle school – but thought it would be a good way to get some exercise without too much stress.

It’s part of my parasympathetic “self-imposed strength training program”, I suppose…

What Did I Accomplish Today to Be a Writer?

I did Day 247 of the 100 Words a Day Writing Challenge 2024 through L.A. Writers’ Lab and spent a good deal of time reading through my manuscript to prepare for the next recording session. The parts coming up are probably going to be pretty hard – I was crying today just trying to read them out loud.

That season with my mom seems like something from worlds away. It’s hard to believe it was less than two years ago. I’m thankful I was writing and taking notes at the time, because there’s a lot I don’t remember until I read it – even then, it hardly seems real.

My Office Management Strategy to Cut Down on Distractions as a Writer

Divvying up office tasks by day is helping me immensely. I took time today to go through my paper stacks and sort through emails. Aiming for an empty inbox every day has helped make logging in feel less like facing a looming mountain. I don’t deal with every email, but I do file them in a place where they are less intimidating, and now I have a time block when I can sit still and sift through the remnants on a regular basis. Discipline will be the key to keeping it clean (and avoiding disaster).

Thanks for reading what I’m writing,

Jody Susan

The post down below from 99 days ago was about consistency. That’s still a lesson I’m learning.

I'm not sure what to say here: I once got second place in a dog-look-alike-contest? I know how to fold a fitted sheet? I'm pretty much a poster child for social backwardness - at least as far as social media is concerned; but I have some stories I think I'm supposed to share and am attempting to do that here, in this space.
