My Journey to Become a Writer 08/28/2024 Post #241

Today has been super-full, but it’s been productive, so I’m glad about that.

Having blackout shades seemed to make such a difference in my sleep last night. Maybe it’s in my head, but I think it helped a lot.

What Did I Accomplish Today to Be a Writer?

I did Day 241 of the 100 Words a Day Writing Challenge 2024 through L.A. Writers’ Lab and got ready to record more of my audiobook. This manuscript is a compilation of posts about my mom’s journey through pancreatic cancer and dementia. I’ve decided to add in time stamps to each chapter, since it would be hard for a “reader” to go back and find out when the last “post” was made. Hopefully, that will help with clarity, but I did have to make up a little chart for what to add where – and wound up counting out days on my fingers and cellphone calendar to make sure they were correct.

Today, Dave Phillips, who wrote the foreword for my book, met me at the studio to record his part. We had a good time, and I was glad he could meet Oscar Corral, who is helping me with the sound. Oscar is very knowledgeable and has been so patient as I learn the ins and outs of making an audiobook.

He has worked with Lamplighter’s on their audio dramas and Sweetwater Sound, and it’s obvious to me that he has a lot of experience and expertise with coaching and encouraging voice actors through their scripts.

After I finish this post, I plan to read a fellow-writer’s draft (actually, I’m going to let my computer “read it to me”). Right now I’m more familiar with editing in Word, but I’m learning the ropes with Google docs. I hope to go back and add comments when I have more time and have heard the entire arc of the story.

My Content Management Strategies to Create and Schedule Manuscripts and Posts

I’m trying to record four days a week right now, so not a lot of actual writing is taking place right now (at least not during the day – Monday was a 5:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. marathon trying to finish my story for the True Tales Memoir publication).

Social Posts are almost completely on hold, other than this blog, because it takes time to practice the script before recording sessions and then make corrections afterwards.

I’ve been scrambling a bit, but hopefully I’m beginning to make some traction.

Thanks for reading what I’m writing,

Jody Susan

The post down below from 99 days ago made me smile, because it showed one of my first pictures from Switzerland. That was a special time to slow down. The language and cultural differences were sometimes a struggle, but it was probably good for me to get out of my comfort zone.

I'm not sure what to say here: I once got second place in a dog-look-alike-contest? I know how to fold a fitted sheet? I'm pretty much a poster child for social backwardness - at least as far as social media is concerned; but I have some stories I think I'm supposed to share and am attempting to do that here, in this space.
