My Journey to Become a Writer 08/16/2024 Post #229

I’m typing this with poison ivy on my wrists. It seems to have spread over the last couple of days, so I’m trying to keep my arms from touching the keyboard. 😬

Just saying that is making my face start to itch.

What Did I Accomplish Today to Be a Writer?

I did Day 229 of the 100 Words a Day Writing Challenge 2024 through L.A. Writers’ Lab and took my dad to record a portion of the manuscript about my mom. He’d written a couple of pages in the midst of my posts about her pancreatic cancer. He also read the “For Whom the Bell Tolls” monologue, because I thought it seemed more like the original author to have it read with a man’s voice.

The audio editor told him he has a voice like Morgan Freeman’s – the kind people like to listen to and asked if he wanted any work as a voice actor. I said, “Maybe that could be a second career.”

My dad responded back, “It would be more like my eighth.”

A friend of mine who has been working on a children’s book called me to say she’s received a contract to have it published. I’m excited about how she’s persevered through this process and plan to look over the contract tomorrow as an extra set of eyes.

My Marketing & Distribution Strategies for Publishing & Improving My Platform

Today I’ve been talking to a few people about my plans to grow my writing and editing business and ideas for how to go about doing that. My wrists are itching, so I’ll just say that the risk factor for me is a fear of failure. The idea that I will try and totally flop makes me not want to follow through – but I guess even failure is something worth writing about, so here I go…

Thanks for reading what I’m writing,

Jody Susan

The post down below from 99 days ago still makes me cringe a little with stress. I wonder when I will be able to look back at this long journey and not wince. I know that day will come eventually, but there is still a sense of feeling too far over-taxed in every entry:

I'm not sure what to say here: I once got second place in a dog-look-alike-contest? I know how to fold a fitted sheet? I'm pretty much a poster child for social backwardness - at least as far as social media is concerned; but I have some stories I think I'm supposed to share and am attempting to do that here, in this space.
