My Journey to Become a Writer 06/29/2024 Post #181

Oh dear. It looks like I’m officially on Facebook.

What am I, like twenty years tardy?

I can’t say I’m excited about it, but I guess I’ll give it a go.

I think it’s been about a year since I started the site, but I didn’t actually put my photo up before today. Now I’m blushing and kinda cringing, because people reacted to it. How does a total introvert try to navigate being seen? I’m not sure. I’m totally grateful for people’s support, but I feel really embarrassed, like I’m putting myself on display in some sort of pursuit for self-promotion.

This is the part about being a writer that I’m most uncomfortable with.

What Did I Accomplish Today to Be a Writer?

I did Day 181 of the 100 Words a Day Writing Challenge 2024 through L.A. Writers’ Lab and finished the 5,000 word piece I have been working on for a collaboration. II sent it in and am hoping it will be accepted for publication, but am not holding my breath. The effort took a lot out of me, but it was a good discipline to get it done.

I also worked on my branding kit in Canva and met with my social media consultant, Tyler Karst, to formulate a plan and get some tips on some tech issues I’ve been having.

Here’s yesterday’s Instagram post, highlighting how to turn the lights on in Italy when the switch doesn’t work:

Apparently, the key is the key to getting the lights to work in Europe

Having a CEO Mentality to Help My Writing & Business Strategy

It’s very easy to get sucked down a rabbit hole of endless tasks when it comes to having a small business. By coming up with a plan, and setting accountability in place, I hope to move forward at a reasonable pace. June is nearly jumping away from us, so I’m hoping to plan for the second half of the year – and tack an extra three months beyond that – onto my vision for where I want to head.

I thought I had the contact forms taken care of on my services page today, which seemed like a huge success, but alas, something in the coding is broken, and I can’t complete that now – or I’ll be digging myself into a hole for the rest of the day.

Thanks for reading what I’m writing,

Jody Susan

The post down below, from 99 days ago, makes me smile and remember I’ve gotten a lot more experience in social media since then. Recently, I posted a video on Instagram about vending eggs from a machine, and the only comment I got back was, “I hate you”. Funny enough, Instagram said that didn’t qualify as hate speech – which made me laugh pretty hard:

I'm not sure what to say here: I once got second place in a dog-look-alike-contest? I know how to fold a fitted sheet? I'm pretty much a poster child for social backwardness - at least as far as social media is concerned; but I have some stories I think I'm supposed to share and am attempting to do that here, in this space.
